주택난을 겪고 있는 사우디가 8억불 규모의 주택 건설 프로젝트를 착수한다.

사우디 노동사회개발부 장관은 사회보장을 위한 주택공급 프로그램을 시작한다고 발표했다.

사우디정부는 이에 참여할 투자자들을 찾고 있으며 시행방식은 BOT나 PPP 둘 중 하나를 선택할 수 있으며

우선적으로 주택 공급에 필요한 재원 8억불을 이미 확보하고 있다고 밝혔다.

BOT란 투자자가 건설에 자금을 투자하고 완공 후 매매 또는 임대로 투자 자금을 회수하는 방식이다.

사우디는 현재 수심만가구에 이르는 주택난에 시달리고 있으며 주택건설이 최우선적인 국가적 프로젝트로 선정되어 있다.

사우디 정부는 최근 2025년까지 3백만호의 주택 건설을 발표한 바 있다.

지난 3월 대우건설과 한화건설은 10만가구 규모의 리야드(Riyadh) 공항에서 동쪽으로 14km 떨어진 곳에 분당신도시 2배 규모(38㎢)의 ‘다흐야 알푸르산(Dahiyat Alfursan) 신도시’ 건설 공사를 사우디 정부와 MOU 체결했다.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Labor and Social Development plans to launch a development in the kingdom to provide housing for social security beneficiaries, and those in need of housing support.

The government will call on investors to partake in the project using either build-operate-transfer (BOT) or public-private partnerships (PPP) systems, according to Arab News.

Government will spend up to $800m (SAR3bn) to support the project to provide housing units to those most in need.

Under the BOT system, investors would fund the construction and receive financial returns from the sale or rent of the completed homes.

Saudi is facing a significant housing shortage of tens of thousands of homes. The kingdom's housing ministry recently said the country will need three million new homes by 2025.
