Dubai is 'on track' with its plans to deliver Expo 2020 with work on the event's main site well underway, according to several government officials.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee, said: We are on track to deliver an exceptional Expo that will truly connect people around the world, where they can come and experience ideas and innovations that will define the next fifty years.
"We are delighted to share the progress we are making with representatives from the Burea of International Expositions (BIE)."
Sheikh Ahmed made the comments during the BIE's technical visit to the emirate as part of a regular programme of meetings to update the governing body on developments in the lead up to the mega event. The BIE delegation visited the site, where construction works have been underway since last September.
In addition, Minister of State for International Cooperation and director-general of Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, HE Reem Al Hashimy, said major construction works on the site will be completed a year ahead of the Expo's Opening Ceremony, which is to be held on 20 October, 2020.
Al Hashimy was speaking at the Meet the CEO event, organised by the Government of Dubai Media Office earlier in the week.
She added that while major works at the site will be completed a year prior to the Expo's inauguration, some participating countries will likely build their own installations that will be finished four months ahead of the opening.
