Artist Installs a Giant Gushing Waterfall in the Middle of the Palace of Versailles Gardens

파리에 가면 유명한 베르사유 궁전이 있다.

이 궁전 앞에 한 예술가가 베르사유 궁전 정원에 거대한 분수를 설치했다.

이 궁전의 중앙에 서서 하얀 물줄기가 솟구치는 분수를 바라보면 정말 장관이다.

이 분수를 설치한 '올라퍼 엘리아슨'은 코펜하겐에서 태어나 덴마크, 아이슬란드에서

자라온 지각 심리체계,과학 그리고 자연과 공간을 이용한 순수미술, 공공미술,

디자인과 건축의 영역을 자유자재로 넘나들며 세계적으로 큰 명성을 누리고 있는 예술가이다.

A waterfall gushing from an invisible source is enough to make one stop and stare, so the sight of one splashing down in the middle of the gardens of the Palace of Versailles is really something of a spectacle. This is just one ofOlafur Eliasson’s ingenious installations which have been strewn throughout the manicured gardens and glittering halls of the famous French landmark. Three outdoor works revolving around water and several phenomenal indoor creations make up the Danish-Icelandic artist’s transformative exhibition as part of an annual series that sees the Palace transfigured by an influential contemporary artist.

Eliasson explains his approach to the event: “The Versailles that I have been dreaming up is a place that empowers everyone. It invites visitors to take control of the authorship of their experience instead of simply consuming and being dazzled by the grandeur. It asks them to exercise their senses, to embrace the unexpected, to drift through the gardens, and to feel the landscape take shape through their movement.” Beside the waterfall, which was inspired by Lous XIV's unrealized vision for the garden, Eliasson has also created a mystical veil of fog, and altered the indoor architecture with ethereal light and mirrors that throw reflections to trick the eye.

Running from June 7 to October 30, 2016, Eliasson’s work plays with perspective and imagination, inviting visitors to interact with the ornate landmark and effectively breathe new life into the iconic tourist attraction.
