Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has announced a list of firms pre-qualified to build a 350MW solar photovoltaic (PV) independent power project (IPP) in Sweihan.

The firm will act as a developer, or developer consortium, and own up to 40% of the project company set to be incorporated for the development.

ADWEA will directly or otherwise hold the remaining 60% stake.

From a list of 90 companies which responded to ADWEA's Expression of Interest request, 48 submitted their Statement of Qualification documents.

ADWEA has picked 34 firms as pre-qualifiers for the development.

Of these, eight have been picked on a standalone basis, or as part of an existing consortium.

These eight firms are consequently permitted to submit a proposal without the need to join or form a consortium.

The remaining 26 firms have been pre-qualified on conditional basis, and have been advised to join or form a consortium within 28 days, before they are formally pre-qualified for the project.

A maximim of 15 bids can be received based on ADWEA's conditions regarding the formation of consortia.

The request for proposal's deadline has been set as 19 September.

Contract works awarded by ADWEA will include the financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of the 350MW power capacity, and its associated infrastructure.

The development is located 120km east of Abu Dhabi city, and will be connected to an existing high voltage substation, WAM reported.
