'I'm the king of the world!' Curiosity reveals stunning 360 panorama of its highest point on the red planet
나사의 큐리어시티 로버가 화성의 바위가 가득찬 울퉁불퉁한 나우쿠루프트 평원(Naukluft Plateau)을 지나며 화성에서 가장 높은 지역에서 파노라마 사진들을 보내왔다.
NASA가 공개한 사진은 지난 4일, 화성 탐사 로봇 큐리오시티가 화성의 게일 분화구 내부에서 360도 회전하며 촬영한 사진들을 합성한 것으로, 풍화로 인해 마치 조각물같은 형태를 하고 있는 신비한 바위들과 화성의 지평선 그리고 산악 지형, 표면의 모래와 암석층을 자세히 살펴볼 수 있다.
이 영상은 유튜브의 360도 비디오 기술을 사용했으며 큐리어시티의 첫 사람 인식으로 찍혀진 완벽한 장면들을 경험할 수 있다. 스마트폰에 있는 유튜브 어플을 통해보면 더욱더 실감나게 볼 수가 있다.
큐리오시티 로버는 지름 50cm, 폭 40cm의 알루미늄 합금 바퀴를 가지고 있다. 이 알루미늄 바퀴는 공기가 들어간 타이어처럼 충격을 흡수하진 않지만 대신 펑크가 날 위험이 없다.
나사의 과학자들은 이 귀하디 귀한 로버의 바퀴가 손상되지 않도록 매우 신경써서 주행 경로를 정했다.
형뻘인 오퍼튜니티처럼 큐리어시티 로버도 바퀴에 손상을 입었지만 작동하는데 지장이 없다.
큐리오시티가 화성에 거주한 지도 이제 44개월이나 되었으며 그 동안 로버가 움직인 거리는 12.7km 정도된다.
