Bangkok Pink and Yellow Monorail Lines Approved

Bangkok Pink and Yellow Monorail Lines Approved :A Yellow Line extension from Samrong across the Chaopraya River to link with the MRT Purple Line at Rat Burana may be added in the future.

The two lines will be electrically powered monorail trains.

Ekniti Nitithanprakas, General Director of the State Enterprise Policy Office, announced in a statement that the projects will be conducted as joint ventures between the public and private sectors:

the Thai state will be responsible for land expropriation

the private sector will bear the costs of civil works, the train systems and maintenance and fees for project advisers in exchange for operating the lines for 30 years

According to Mr. Nitithanprakas the state is willing to partially subsidize the project in order to attract investors, but not in excess of the cost of the civil construction works.

The Bangkok Mass Rapid Transit Authority will now prepare detailed studies for the two projects and submit them for cabinet approval by the end of March.
