Man Transforms His Bathroom Mirror into a Hi-Tech Device of the Future

구글 엔지니어 '맥스 브라운'은 구글러답게 미래 지향적인 욕실의 스마트 거울을 원했다.

모든 정보가 거울에 바로 나타나는 그런...이런 제품은 아직 시중에 나와 있지는 않다.

그러나 그중 일부는 구득하기 쉽다. 이런 생각으로 맥스 브라운은 자신의 욕실에 스마트 거울을 설치하기로 결심했다.

하이테크와 아날로그 기술이 모두 함께 하는 한쪽면이 유리창인 이 거울은 디스플레이 판넬과 콘트롤러 보드, 부품, 미술과 공예작품까지 여러번의 시험 끝에 브라운은 꿈에 그리던 적정한 조합을 찾았다.

이 스마트 거울은 매끈하고 모던하며 거의 모든 것이 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.

상호 주고 받는 개념은 아니지만 데이터가 즉시 자동 업데이트 되며 조정 가능한 음성 탐색 인터페이스도 설치되어 있다.

거울의 우측면에는 시간과 날짜가 표시되며 좌측은 현재 기온 24시간 기상예보 그리고 최신 뉴스의 헤드라인이 표시된다.

브라운은 이를 계기로 앞으로 교통 정보와 잊고 있었던 것을 생각나게 해주는 기능 등을 추가하여 일상의 정보 기능도를 한 단계 높인 스마트 거울로 발전시켜 갈 계획이다

Google engineer Max Braun wanted his ordinary bathroom mirror to look more like the futuristic fixtures you’d see in the movies—the kind that transmit information directly onto the mirror. Though these smart products are not yet on the market, the parts for them are fairly easy to obtain. With this in mind, Braun decided to build his own mirror of the future.

The impressive DIY project required both hi-tech and analog materials: a two-way mirror, display panel, controller board, components, as well as arts and crafts supplies. After much experimentation and “some dead ends,” Braun finally discovered the right combination of parts that made his dream come true. The resulting mirror is sleek, modern, and most of all, very helpful when you’re getting ready for the day.

Braun emphasizes that his project is a work in progress, but he’s already programed some fantastic features into it. “The idea is that you don’t need to interact with this UI [user interface],” he writes on Medium. “Instead, it updates automatically and there’s an open-ended voice search interface for anything else.” The right side of the mirror displays the time and date, while the left side has current weather, a 24-hour forecast, and recent news headlines. In the future, Braun plans on adding traffic information and personal reminders, which will further enhance his daily routine.
