The striking pictures were taken by photographer Michelle Lynn Fritz from Pennsylvania, in the USA, where she creates the bubbles and lights them up against the rising sun.

Ms Fritz, snaps the pictures in her back garden and only uses regular children's bubble solution, mixed with a couple of squirts of glycerine for added stability.

The 49-year-old said: 'I saw the art of frozen bubbles on the internet last winter - as a photographer who loves flowers it gave me something to be excited about in winter.

'Photographing frozen bubbles is very tricky - it is almost essential that there's no wind and the temperatures need to be below freezing.

'If there is wind most of the bubbles will pop, however if you are lucky enough to have a slight wind and a bubble that does not break, beautiful crystals that resemble snowflakes form on the sides.'

To create her pictures, Ms Fritz sprinkles snow or crushed ice on to a glass topped table to keep the bubbles whole.
