두바이 도로교통청은 2020년까지  19개 지역 서비스 개선과 함께 16개 지역의 새로운 지하철 네트워크를 확장하기로 했다.

해상교통을 개선시키고 걸프만과 비지니스만을 연결하는 두바이 수로터널 완성과 더불어 주요 성장동력을 이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.

마타르 알 타이어 RTA 회장은 두바이 대중교통의 폭 넓은 통합서비스망 구축은 사람들의 이동성을 결정적으로 개선시킬 것"이라고 말했다.

또한 RTA는 도로 인프라와 대중교통시스템을 획기적으로 개선하며 효율적인 대중교통체계와 스마트 서비스를 확대안을 가지고 있다고 언급했다.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to broaden the metro network to reach 16 new districts, while improving the service in 19 others by 2020.

A focus will be put on upgrading marine transit modes, which are expected to witness major growth with the opening of the Dubai Water Canal linking the Business Bay with the Gulf. 

Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the RTA, said: "Comprising a full range of integrated services, the public transport network in Dubai has become the backbone of people's mobility in various parts of the emirate of Dubai.

"RTA has ambitious plans for upgrading roads infrastructure and mass transit systems, beside improving the efficiency of public transport, and broadening the delivery of smart services to the public."

The authority has also revealed plans to procure new trains to keep up with growth in the number of metro users in the lead up to hosting Expo 2020, Arabian Business reported.
