GCC 6개국 철도 프로젝트의 노선 조사결과에 대해 분석 중이라고 고위관계자가 밝혔다. 총 2,117km 철도망은 2018년에 완료 예정이며 GCC 6개국가로 연결된다. 압둘라 알 무크빌 사우디 교통부 장관은 현재 진행 중인 조사는 2016년 완료될 예정이며 이후 각 나라들과 협의하여 프로젝트를 시행하기로 했다고 로이터통신이 보도했다. 이 철도프로젝트와 더불어 60,000km의 도로에 매설될 파이프라인공사가 추가됐다. 현재 시공 중인 1,200km의 UAE 에티하드철도 프로젝트도 2018년 완료될 예정이다. GCC 장거리 철도프로젝트는 참여국가의 제각각 다른 추진 때문에 공사가 지연될 수 있다는 예상에 귀추가 주목됐었다. 올 7월에는 쿠웨이트의 파이살 알 칸다리 장관이 국제적으로 통용되고 있는 유사한 프로젝트 통합시스템을 따를 것을 권고했다. 이는 걸프국가 내에서 통합된 입찰 및 낙찰 체계와 프로젝트를 관리하는 시스템이다. 또 알 칸다리 장관은 GCC국가들과 협력해 공사추진을 촉진시키기 위해 총력을 기울여야 하며 대부분국가들은 프로젝트를 착수했으나 쿠웨이트는 그중에서 아직도 추진이 뒤로 처지는 편이라고 아랍뉴스가 보도했다.  by Ki Chul Hwang  Conpaper  Editor Distributor  황기철  콘페이퍼 에디터

 

Project study underway to analyse 2,117km GCC Rail

A project study is underway for the GCC Rail project, a senior minister has revealed.

The railway network, which is due to complete by 2018, will span 2,117km, and link all six GCC member states.

Abdullah Al-Muqbil, Saudi Arabia's transport minister, said the ongoing project study will end in 2016.

"The project study will end in March 2016 and then the discussion between the GCC countries will follow to execute the plan," he stated, according to Reuters. 

Al-Muqbil added a plan is also in the pipeline to implement at least 60,000km of roads in the upcoming years as Saudi seeks to spur development within its borders. 

 

The UAE's under-construction Etihad Rail, spanning 1,200km, is also scheduled to be completed in 2018.

There have previously been concerns that the GCC Rail might be delayed due to varying levels of project progress reported by each member state.

In July, Kuwaiti minister of parliament Faisal Al Kandari recommended Kuwait follow a system similar to that followed internationally, and within the Gulf, where a unified body tenders, awards, and manages rail projects.

Al Kandari added Kuwait must strive to catch up with its GCC neighbours, most of which have "started the implementation of the railway project to link the entire Gulf".

"Kuwait is still lagging behind", he added, according to Arab News.
