  사우디 교통부장관인 압둘라 알 무크빌은 225억불 규모의 사우디 리야드 메트로 건설공사는 준공에 차질없는 공정을 보이고 있으며 당초 예정된 2018년에 모두 완공할 것이라고 언급했다.

또한 2014년 4월에 착수된 공정은 현재 빠른 속도로 진행되고 있으며 약 25%를 완료했다고 말했다. 

그는 이어 근간에 글로벌 유가하락과 관련해 176.7km 연장 6개 라인의 리야드 메트로프로젝트의 공기가지연될 것이라는 소문에 대해 "그런 일은 절대 없을 것"이라고 일축했다.

로이터에 따르면 알 무크빌 장관은 "앞으로 3년 이내에 모든 공사를 끝낼 것이며 몇개의 라인은 공기를 앞당겨 준공할 것"이라고 자신감을 보였다. 

또한 새 파트너를 공사에 투입할 계획은 없다고 말했다.

사우디 리야드 메트로 건설공사에는 삼성물산컨소시엄이 모두 3개노선 64.5km 총 79억불 규모의 공사를 맡아 사우디 최초  대형TBM 사용 및 FSLM(Full Span Launching Method)방식 등의 신기술을 적용하여 차질없는 공사를 수행하고 있다.

Saudi minister denies $22.5bn Riyadh Metro delay

Work on the $22.5bn (SAR84.4bn) Riyadh Metro project is on track for scheduled completion, the Kingdom's transport minister said. 

Abdullah Al-Muqbil denied the rail project in Saudi Arabia's capital will be opened later than its scheduled 2018 opening.

Work on the project began in April 2014 after Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) announced the project's winning design and build bids. 

Al-Muqbil said work on the project is progressing speedily, with 25% of the development already completed. 

The decline in global oil prices fuelled rumours that the 176.7km six-line metro network will be delayed, but Al-Muqbil denied these remarks. 

According to Reuters, Al-Muqbil "exuded confidence that the project will be completed within the next three years and also indicated that there are some metro lines, work on which will end ahead of schedule".

No new partners will be roped in for the project's implementation, he added.
