영국 왕가의 대관식 장소로 유명한 런던 웨스트민스터 사원이 270년 만에 시행하는 복원 사업의 설계 및 사업관리 입찰에 참여하게되는 총 9개업체가 쇼트리스트로 결정됐다.
현지 언론에 따르면 유력한 낙찰 후보로 설계분야에서 영국의 대표 설계사인 포스터앤드파트너스가 거론되고 있으며 사업관리 분야는 에이컴이 지목받고 있다.
낙찰자는 내년에 결정된다.
내년에 착수될 복원프로젝트에 소요될 공사비는 39~71억파운드(미화 약 58.5억~106.5억불)로2020년 착공을 기대하고 있다. 완공시기는 최소 6년에서 40년까지도 예상하고 있다.

[웨스트민스터 사원 리모델링사업]
그간 수많은 보수작업을 해왔던 웨스트민스터 사원의 리모델링사업은 웨스트민스터 시티 카운슬이 새로운 탑을 만드는 것을 골자로 하는 것으로 웨스트민스터 사원에 새로운 탑이 추가되는 것은 1745년 건축가 혹스무어가 주 출입문 옆에 쌍둥이 모양의 서쪽 탑을 완성한 이후 처음이다.
2018년 완공을 목표로 하는 새 탑은 그동안 사원의 다락방에 위치한 갤러리에 소장돼 일반의 접근이 어려웠던 진귀한 골동품과 보물 박물관에 대한 접근성을 용이하게 할 전망이다.
현재 일반인들은 70피트 높이의 제단 위 벽 꼭대기에 위치한 돌 아치를 통해서만 먼 거리에서 희미하게 이 장엄한 공간을 볼 수 있다.
이 갤러리에 접근할 수 있는 유일한 길은 절벽에서 튀어나온 바위와도 같은 길을 타고 만들어진 좁은 나선형 계단을 위험하게 걸어올라가는 방법 뿐이었다.
이 때문에 주로 시설 관리팀 직원이나 국가적 행사를 촬영하려는 카메라맨들만 이 장소를 이용해왔다.
웨스트민스터 사원의 구조 측량사인 프톨레미 딘이 디자인한 새로운 탑은 사원의 전체적인 고딕 양식을 해치지 않기 위해 유명 문인의 묘와 기념비가 있는 '포잇츠 코너'의 바깥쪽 건물에 가리도록 세워질 예정이다.
16세기에 지어진 성모 예배소와 13세기에 건립된 사제단 회의장을 받치는 부벽(扶壁) 사이에서만 새 탑을 볼 수 있다고 가디언은 설명했다.
웨스트민스터 사원의 존 홀 주임 사제는 "새 탑을 지어 동쪽 트리포리움(교회 입구의 아치와 지붕 사이)을 일반에 개방하려는 우리의 제안을 웨스트민스터 시티 카운슬이 지지해줘 매우 기쁘다"고 말했다.
새로운 공간은 '여왕의 즉위 60주년 기념 갤러리'로 명명될 예정이며 1천890만 파운드(약 320억원)의 예산이 소요될 것이라고 가디언은 전했다 출처 연합뉴스

Nine organisations have been selected to progress to the next stage of the procurement for design and programme management services to restore the Palace of Westminster.
Cost of the project has been put at between £3.9bn and £7.1bn over a timescale of up to 40 years.
The shortlisted organisations are:

In June a consortium led by Deloitte Real Estate, AECOM and HOK produced an independent options appraisal (IOA) of a range of scenarios for carrying out the works. The report does not contain recommendations on which scenario to choose but was intended to enable members of both Houses to make an informed decision in principle.
In July 2015 a Joint Select Committee was formed to consider the findings of the IOA and other evidence and make recommendations to both Houses. Procurement of these services is underway now to keep the programme on track for a potential 2020/21 start date without anticipating the selection of a particular scenario and will help ensure Parliament is ready to commission design work after a decision, expected in 2016, has been made.
