    태국 정부는 지난 12.8일 방콕 지하철 오렌지 라인(Orange Line)의 건설을 승인하였다. 국영기업인 대중고속교통공단(Mass Rapid Transit Authority)이 운영을 맡게 되며 제1단계 노선이 2022년 개통될 예정이다.

건설공사 입찰은 5월에 있을 예정이다. 용지 매입을 위하여 96억 바트의 예산이 확보되었으며 공사비는 855억 바트에 이를 것으로 추정된다. 사업비 중 일부는 정부예산으로, 일부는 재정부에서 주선하게 될 차관도입으로 충당할 예정이다.

동과 서를 연결하는 21.1km 노선은 태국 문화 중심지 Huai Khwang 지역과 방콕 동부의 Min Buri까지 건설되는데 12km는 지하노선으로, 나머지 구간은 고가철도로 건설된다. 17개 역이 들어서는데 개통초기에는 1일 117,000명이 이용할 것으로 추정하고 있다.

2단계 공사는 서쪽 지역으로 Taling Chan까지 17.5km를 연장하는 노선으로 853억 바트의 건설비가 소요될 것으로 예상된다. 1,2단계 공사가 모두 완료되면 1일 50만 명 승객을 수송 할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

오렌지 라인은 당초 2019년에 개통되도록 계획되었으나 노선이 지나는 일부 지역 주민의 항의로 2013년 입찰이 지연된 바 있다.

Bankok MRT Orange Line Finally Approved

Approval for phase 1 of the multi-billion baht MRT Orange Line has finally been rubber-stamped after years of delays due to route changes and political instability.

Bidding for the initial 21km section from the Thailand Cultural Centre in Huai Khwang to Min Buri district in eastern Bangkok opens in May 2016 with construction estimated to be complete by 2022.

Phase 1 of the Orange Line will comprise 9km of elevated track with 7 stations and 12.2km underground with 10 stations. 

When the phase two extension to Taling Chan District is built this will add a further 17.5km of underground track with 13 additional stations.

Construction is estimated at 85.48 billion baht with the remaining 9.62 billion baht for land purchases. The project will be funded by the national budget and loans.
