An Indian minister has expressed his desire to construct a structure taller than Dubai's Burj Khalifa in Mumbai.
According to India's Economic Times, union minister Nitin Gadkari said the structure would be dedicated to the memory of Chhatrapati Shivaji, a 17th century Indian warrior, after whom Mumbai's international airport is named.
"I am not making any announcement but only expressing my wish," Gadkari said, according to the report.
"I want a huge building to come up in Mumbai. I want a structure taller than the Burj Khalifa, one of the tallest buildings of the world, to come up in Mumbai near the seas. It will be called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj tower," he continued.
The minister said the tower's first 30 floors would be reserved for a convention centre, the next 30 for restaurants, another set of 30 floors for hotels, and 20 floors for malls, along with numerous other floors underground as parking space.
"On the top floors of the building, there can be an art gallery dedicated to Shivaji Maharaj, depicting his life. Around the building, there will be musical fountains, lights, and crystal clear water," he said.
Gadkari did not reveal how he hopes to finance this development.
