Staged in the Japanese city of Sendai from Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November, it will be the second time that Japan has hosted the Women뭩 World Cup; the one previous occasion being in 2013 in Kobe when Liu Shiwen accounted for colleague, Wu Yang, to secure the title for the third time in her career.
Once again she will be present, being one of two, players from the People Republic of China who will be in action; the other is Zhu Yuling who is making her debut.
Now media accreditation for the prestigious three day tournament is available.
Overriding Question
An overriding question is as to whether Liu Shiwen can win for a fourth time and thus equal the records of colleagues Wang Nan and Zhang Yining, arguably the two greatest female players of the current century; or as to whether Zhu Yuling can make her mark.
The only player ever to win the Girls� Singles title at the World Junior Championships on two occasions, she won in Bratislava in 2010 and in Hyderabad in 2012; in recent times Zhu Yuling, with wins on the GAC Group ITTF World Tour, has proved herself worthy of recognition for the Chinese first team.
Current Trio
Undoubtedly the current elite trio is Ding Ning, Liu Shiwen and Li Xiaoxia; however by her own admission, Li Xiaoxia, although only 27 years old, sees her days in the Chinese National Team as numbered.
World Champions
Together Liu Shiwen and Zhu Yuling hold the highest honour; they won the Women Doubles title earlier this year at the Qoros 2015 World Championships.
Now apart who will win should they meet?
I wonder for the members of the media present, will they be reporting on a future Women뭩 Singles World champion and Olympic Champion?
