삼성전자가 뒤차 운전자의 사고발생 위험을 줄이는 ‘안전 트럭(Safety Truck)’을 개발했다.  22일(미국시간) CNN머니에 따르면 삼성은 대형 트럭 뒤에서 운전하는 이들의 시야를 확보해주는 안전 트럭의 시제품을 아르헨티나에서 선보였다. 안전 트럭은 전면에 무선 카메라를 장착해 트럭 후면부에 네 개의 스크린을 통해 뒤차 운전자가 볼 수 없는 트럭 앞면의 상황을 실시간으로 보여주는 기술을 담고 있다. 삼성은 18일 홈페이지를 통해 세계에서 5번째로 교통사고율이 높은 아르헨티나에서 사고의 대부분이 2차선에서 앞지르기가 이뤄질 때 벌어졌다면서 기술 개발의 배경을 설명했다. 트럭의 스크린을 통해 뒤차의 운전자가 앞지르기를 할 때 도움을 받을 수 있다는 것이다. 삼성의 안전 트럭은 아직 시제품 초기 단계에 불과해 실제로 생산이 이뤄지기까지는 시간이 걸릴 것으로 보인다.  삼성은 아르헨티나에서 안전 트럭 1대만 선보였으며 현재는 이마저도 길거리에서 볼 수 없는 상태다.   현재 삼성은 각국에서 승인을 받고 안전 규정을 준수하기 위해 필요한 시험을 받고자 안전운전 관련 비정부기구(NGO) 및 각국 정부와 협력하고 있다고 밝혔다 [에너지경제 김동규 기자]

According to Samsung Tomorrow, Samsung’s prototype, the Safety Truck, has a wireless camera attached to the front of the truck, which is connected to a video wall composed of four exterior monitors on the rear of the truck. The technology informs drivers of vehicles behind large, slower moving trucks whether or not it’s safe to pass the tractor-trailer. 

“The monitors give drivers behind the truck a view of what is going on ahead, even in the dark of the night,” according to Samsung Tomorrow. “This allows drivers to have a better view when deciding whether it is safe to overtake. Another advantage of the Safety Truck is that it may reduce the risk of accidents caused by sudden braking or animals crossing the road.”

According to Samsung, the next step is to perform tests to comply with national protocols, as well as to obtain the necessary permits and approvals.
