한국전력(사장 조환익)은 2015년 6월 16일 UAE 바라카(Barakah) 원전 2호기 원자로 설치를 성공적으로 시행하였으며, 이와 함께 UAE원전 2호기 발전소 내 원전 핵심설비인 원자로가 설치되어 본격적인 기전공사가 착수되었음.
원전건설 주요공정 부지정지→기초굴착→최초콘크리트타설→원자로설치→초기전원가압→연료장전→준공 이날 행사에는 UAE 부총리인 세이크 함단 빈 자이드(H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed), 아부다비 행정청 장관 겸 ENEC 이사회 의장인 칼둔 칼리파 알 무바락(H.E. Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak) 등 UAE정부 주요인사가 대거 참석하여 UAE원전사업의 성공적인 추진에 대한 UAE정부의 높은 관심을 표명하였음. UAE원전사업의 주사업자인 한국전력공사와 협력사인 한국수력원자력, 한국전력기술, 두산중공업, 한전원자력연료, 현대건설 및 삼성물산 등의 임원들은 성공적인 사업완수를 다짐하고, 건설현장에 근무하는 근로자들을 격려하였음.
UAE원전 1, 2호기 종합공정률(’15. 5월말 기준)은 66%이며, 1호기는 지난 ’15.4월 초기전원가압을 성공적으로 시행하여 발전소 시운전 준비를 위한 모든 기기의 성능시험에 착수하였고, ‘16.10월 핵연료 장전을 거쳐 ‘17. 5월 준공될 예정임. 2, 3, 4호기도 1호기 준공 이후 1년 단위로 준공되어 UAE 경제발전에 필요한 안정적인 전력공급에 기여할 것임. UAE원전 2호기 원자로 설치 기념행사에 참석한 박정근 한전 해외부사장은 “한국전력은 지난 40년간 누적된 국내 원전건설 경험 및 성공적인 원전운영 실적을 바탕으로 UAE에 원전 건설과 운영에 필요한 각종 최신기술 등을 제공함으로써 UAE와 실질적인 동반자적인 관계를 구축하고 있으며, 향후 해외원전 건설시장에 양국이 전략적 공동 진출을 할 것으로 기대한다.”고 소감을 밝혔음. 한전 조환익 사장도 UAE원전사업의 성공을 위해 함께 애쓰고 있는 한전과 협력사의 노고를 치하하며, “UAE원전 사업은 근로자의 안전과 보건을 국제기준(International Standard) 이상으로 관리하는 세계최고수준의 모범적인 현장으로, UAE원전 현장 근로자의 안전에 최선을 다해 줄 것”을 당부하였음. 한전은 이번 UAE원전 2호기 원자로 설치 적기달성을 계기로 세계 원전시장에서 한국의 원전건설 강점인 안전하고 신뢰할 수 있는 원전건설과 목표준공 적기달성에 대한 신뢰성을 다시 한 번 높이고, 제2, 제3의 해외 원전수주 기반을 확고히 다지게 되는 기틀을 마련함 . The reactor vessel for the second unit of the United Arab Emirates' (UAE's)
first nuclear power plant under construction at Barakah has been installed.

18 June 2015 A ceremony was held yesterday to mark the installation of the vessel. Among the attendees was Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region. During the ceremony, Sheikh Hamdan signed the bottom of the reactor vessel. The component - measuring 14.8 meters in height and 5.5 meters in diameter and weighing 533 tonnes - left on a ship from Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction's manufacturing plant in Changwon, South Korea, on 9 April. Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi was cited by the WAM news agency as saying, "The safe and successful installation of Enec's second reactor vessel is the culmination of many months of hard work and dedication to the highest standards of safety and quality from our team." He added, "It represents an important element of the vast construction program underway here at Barakah as we work towards the start of commercial operations in 2017 - the time when these reactors will begin producing the vital electricity needed to meet the country's rapidly growing energy demands and support our continued social and economic growth." Sheikh Hamdan said, "I am proud to be here in Barakah today to witness the delivery of yet another safe and on-time milestone in the UAE's peaceful nuclear energy program." He added, "Safe, clean and reliable nuclear energy has an important role to play in the future of our nation and in the Western Region in particular. The role of the peaceful nuclear energy program in the Western Region is instrumental and will bring many benefits, from the creation of high-value job opportunities to the emergence of a sophisticated new industrial sector to support operations in Barakah." In a $20 billion deal announced in December 2009, Enec selected a consortium led by Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) to build four APR-1400 reactors. First concrete for Barakah 1 was poured in July 2012, while that for unit 2 was poured in May 2013. Construction of unit 1 is now more than 73% complete while unit 2 is 50% complete.
