포스코가 올해에도 ‘세계에서 가장 경쟁력 있는 철강사’ 1위에 선정되는 기염을 토했다.   세계적 철강전문 분석기관인 WSD(World Steel Dynamics)는 6월 9일(뉴욕 현지시각) 제30차 글로벌 철강전략회의(SSS; Steel Success Strategies)를 열고 ‘세계에서 가장 경쟁력 있는 철강사(World-Class Steelmaker Rankings)’ 선정결과를 발표했다.   이번 WSD 발표로 포스코는 6년간 8회 연속 세계 제일의 철강사임을 여실히 입증했다.   WSD는 2015년 6월 기준 전 세계 36개 철강사를 대상으로 생산 규모·수익성·기술혁신·가격 결정력·원가 절감·재무 건전성·원료 확보 등 23개 항목을 평가했다.   포스코는 월드프리미엄(WP; World Premium) 제품 등 고부가가치 제품 판매를 확대하고 기술에 기반한 솔루션마케팅을 펼치는 등 철강 본원 경쟁력 강화에 주력한 결과, 기술혁신·인적자원 등 4개 항목에서 최고 점수인 10점을 획득해 종합 평균 7.91점으로 1위 자리를 지켜냈다.   WSD 발표에 따르면 포스코의 뒤를 이어 최근 선진국 철강경기 회복세와 더불어 셰일가스 개발 혜택을 누리고 있는 미국 뉴코어(2위), 아베노믹스로 수출 경쟁력이 높아진 신일철주금(3위), 브라질 철강사 게르다우(4위), 러시아 철강사 세베르스탈(5위)이 차례로 선정돼 각 국가를 대표하는 철강사들의 저력이 돋보였다는 평가를 받았다. 현대제철은 지난해에 이어 올해도 9위에 이름을 올렸다.   한편 이날 철강전략회의에서 WSD는 ‘새로운 도약(Just the Beginning)’을 주제로 2015년에서 2017년까지의 단기 철강시황을 진단·전망한 결과 세계 철강산업의 저성장은 당분간 지속될 것이나, 2017년 세계경제 호전과 원료시장 개선 등으로 회복세로 돌아설 수 있을 것으로 내다봤다. 포스코 박예나 mela@posco.com

POSCO named world's most competitive steelmaker for 6th year 

SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's top steelmaker POSCO said Tuesday it was named the world's most competitive steelmaker in a global industry report for the sixth consecutive year. In an annual assessment of 36 steelmakers worldwide, global steel information service provider World Steel Dynamics (WSD) gave POSCO the top mark of 7.91 points out of 10, according to the South Korean company. The WSD report, which ranks the steelmakers based on 23 categories, gave top scores for POSCO in four segments, including technological innovation and human resources, the company said.  POSCO said the company was highly recognized for its efforts to expand sales of high-end products and boost its competitiveness by carrying out technology-based solution marketing. U.S.-based minimill Nucor Corp. came next, followed by Japan's Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. and Brazil's Gerdau.  Hyundai Steel Co., an affiliate of the world's No. 5 auto conglomerate, Hyundai Motor Group, finished ninth in the rankings, the second time it has done so since last year. http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/full/2015/06/09/88/1200000000AEN20150609007600320F.html
