JR 도카이(東海)는 4월 16일, 야마나시(山梨) 리니어 실험선에서 최고속도 590km/h의 유인(有人) 시험주행을 실시했다고 발표하였다.  자기부상식 철도의 기존 최고속도의 세계기록은 야마나시 리니어 실험선의 MLX-01형이 2003년 12월 2일에 기록한 581km/h였다. 약 11년 만에 경신했다. 야마나시 리니어 실험선은 야마나시 현 우에노 하라(上野原) 시에서 후에후키(笛吹) 시까지 42.8km에 건설된 초전도 자기부상식 철도(초전도 리니어)의 실험선이다. 2027년 일부 개통을 예정하고 있는 중앙 신칸센의 선로에 전용된다. JR 도카이에 따르면 영업선 설비의 최적설계를 하기 위한 데이터 취득을 목적으로 550km/h를 넘는 속도영역에서의 주행시험을 실시하였다. 4월 16일 오전 중에 590km/h의 유인주행하였다.  이 밖에 4월 10일에는 장거리 주행시험을 실시해 2003년 11월 7일 기록(2876km)을 웃도는 3904km를 기록하였다. 4월 14일은 추가로 약 100km 늘려 406.4km를 기록하였다. 4월 15일까지 누적 주행 거리는 지구 30바퀴 분량의 121만 8,000km에 이른다. 레일뉴스 최경수 기자

Japan’s maglev train sets world record at 590kph 

KOFU, YAMANASHI PREF. – A magnetic levitation train run by Central Japan Railway Co. set a world speed record of 590 kph on Thursday during a manned test run on an experimental track, the railway company said. The train operator broke the previous world record of 581 km per hour set by itself in December 2003 and plans to try to run its maglev train as fast as 600 km per hour next week. during the test using new LO-series cars on the track between Uenohara and Fuefuki in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo, the company said. The new record comes just a few days after JR Central made a world single-day running distance record of 4,064 km, far exceeding the previous record of 2,876 km it set in 2003. All the world records have been achieved as the company is stepping up preparations to start its maglev train services in 2027 to connect Tokyo’s Shinagawa Station with Nagoya, which are 286 km apart, in 40 minutes. That will be less than half the time existing bullet trains take to make the trip. The company plans to conduct another test run as soon as next Tuesday to run its maglev at a top speed of about 600 kph. Kyodo
