중국이 총 2420억불이 소요되는 베이징~모스크바까지 고속철 건설의 본격 시동을 걸었다. 고속철 완공시 5시간에서 이틀까지 걸리는 여행시간을 단축시켜 줄 총연장 7000km에 달하는 노선은 카자흐스탄을 경유하게 된다고 블룸버그가 보도했다. 앞으로 유럽과 아시아 간 교통의 교두보 역할을 할 것으로 예상된다. 그동안 중국은 첨단 고속철 기술을 발전시켜왔으며 러시아는 중국에게 매우 매력적인 고속철 시장으로 부각이 되어왔다. 우크라이나를 포함해 서구 여러나라들에도 영향을 줄 수 있기 때문이다. 2014년 11월 러시아와 중국은 고속철 건설에 양국간 양해각서(MOU) 체결했다. 이 프로젝트는 5월달에 체결된 4000억불에 달하는 초대형 가즈프롬 러시아 가스관 건설 보다도 훨씬 많은 관심을 받고 있어 귀추가 주목되고 있다. 황기철 콘페이퍼 에디터

China is going to build a $242 billion (1.5 trillion yuan) high-speed rail link between Beijing and Moscow. The line will cut the journey time from five to 'two days', say Chinese authorities. The railway will be 7,000 kilometers long and go through Kazakhstan, reports Bloomberg citing Beijing’s city government on the social networking site Weibo, China’s alternative to Twitter. The railway will make travel easier between Europe and Asia, the statement said.  China is actively promoting its high-speed railway technology and sees Russia as an especially attractive market because of its strained relations with Western countries over Ukraine In October 2014 Russia and China signed a memorandum of understanding over a high-speed railway connection. Russian Railways then reported that its purpose was to plan for a high-speed Moscow - Beijing Eurasian transport corridor.  The project was more interesting because of the $400 billion deal signed in May for Russian gas giant Gazprom to build a pipeline and start gas supplies to China.  READ MORE: Russia and China seal historic $400bn gas deal  First Vice President of Russian Railways Alexander Misharin said in November that the plan would cost $60 billion to reach the Russian border and that the journey from Moscow to Beijing could be done within 30 hours. The fastest route currently takes at least 5 days.  Misharin expected construction would take from 8 to 10 years.
