삼성물산이 말레이시아 페트로나스 가스(PETRONAS Gas Berhad)가 발주한 LNG 터미널 건설공사의 최종계약을 마쳤다고 24일 밝혔다.   전체 공사금액은 저장탱크 설계를 포함해 4억8600만 달러(5175억원)이며, 이 중 삼성물산은 설계를 포함해 4억5990만 달러(4900억원)를 계약했다.   삼성물산은 말레이시아 건설사인 STS와 컨소시엄을 구성해 사업에 참여할 예정이다. 완공은 2018년 4월 말 예정이다.   이번 프로젝트는 말레이시아 수도 쿠알라룸푸르(Kuala Lumpur)에서 동남쪽으로 300km 떨어진 조호르 주(州) 펜거랑(Pengerang)지역에 20만㎥의 LNG 탱크 2기와 연간 5백만 톤의 액화천연가스 기화송출설비를 짓는 공사로, 페트로나스 가스는 완공 후 인근 대규모 석유화학단지 및 열병합 발전소에 천연가스를 공급할 수 있게 된다.   이번 사업에서는 영국 액화천연가스(LNG) 저장탱크, 재기화(regasification)시설 설계 전문업체인 웨소(Whessoe)의 힘이 컸다. 지난해 3월 웨소를 인수한 삼성물산은 협업을 통해 사업 초기부터 설계와 시공을 수행했다. 웨소는 전 세계 LNG인수기지 중 6%, 탱크설계 중 13%를 수행했을 정도로 기술력을 인정받고 있다.   삼성물산 측은 “싱가포르, 말레이시아를 중심으로 한 동남아 지역 에너지 허브 전략에 따라 LNG 저장시설 분야는 앞으로도 발전가능성이 높다”며 “성공적인 공사수행 역량을 통해 고객을 신뢰를 얻고, 이를 바탕으로 글로벌 LNG 설계 및 시공분야에서 지속적인 수주를 이어 가겠다”라고 전했다. Samsung C&T Corporation, our affiliate, has been awarded a contract by PETRONAS Gas Berhad to build a re-gasification terminal in Johor, Malaysia, with its partner Science-Tech Solutions (STS) Sdn. Bhd.  PETRONAS Gas Berhad is a subsidiary of national oil company.    Samsung C&T Corporation will execute the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) work of the re-gasification terminal which has a send-out capacity of 5 million tons per annum and two 200,000m3 LNG storage tanks. Construction is expected to be completed by April, 2018.   The re-gasification terminal (known as RGT-2) is part of Malaysia’s development plan to secure stable natural gas supply for the nearby Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID), Pengerang Co-generation Plant (PCP) and also to the Peninsular Gas Utilization (PGU) Grid.   Samsung C&T is developing a strong track record in LNG, having completed various projects around the world. The company successfully completed the first LNG terminal in Singapore, and was further awarded the phase 3 expansion of the Singapore LNG terminal in August 2014. Through its acquisition of Whessoe Engineering Limited, an engineering firm specialized in cryogenic tanks and regasification facilities based in United Kingdom, Samsung C&T looks set to become a leading engineering and construction company in the LNG industry. samsungvilla
