인도 구자랏에 세워질 'Statue of Unity (통일 동상)'은 높이가 182m에 달하며 Sadhu-Bet 섬에 세워 질 계획이다.   이 동상이 완공되면 명실공히 세계에서 가장 높은 동상이 되며 미국의 자유 여신상 높이(93m)의 2배가 된다.   Larsen & Toubro사는 동상 뿐만 아니라 전시장을 포함해 내부 진입도로 등의 부대시설 등도 시공하게 되며 도로 교량 등 Sadhu섬의 기존 토목시설물의 개량도 함께 수행한다.   공사기간은 42개월이다. <에디터 황기철>   L&T to build tallest monument in world in India   Larsen & Toubro Construction has won an EPC order worth 2,989 crores for the design and construction of the Statue of Unity from the Government of Gujarat.   The 182m (597ft) bronze statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai will be built on the Sadhu-Bet Island, 3.5km south of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia n the Narmada district of Gujarat.   Once completed, the Statue of Unity will be the tallest in the world, double the size of New York’s Statue of Liberty (93m).   L&T’s scope will include design, engineering and construction of the statue along with an exhibition centre at its base, a memorial garden, designer bridge connecting Sadhu Island with the mainland along the Narmada River, an internal roadway stretching 5km, and improvements to the existing roads/bridges/culverts connecting the area of Sadhu Island. It will also host an administrative complex, a management hub-cum-star rated hotel (Shresta Bharat Bhavan) and a conference centre.   The memorial tourist centre is scheduled to be completed within 42 months.   S.N.
