BBC weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker forgets what Scottish capital is called, loses it on air

터졌다. 웃음보가 터져버렸다. 그것도 생방송 중에 말이다. 12일 영국 BBC 공식 유튜브 계정에 올라온 1분9초짜리 영상을 감상해보자.
상황은 이렇다. 기상캐스터 토마스 샤펜하커는 에딘버러에서 현지 날씨를 전하던 동료로부터 마이크를 이어받았다.
이어 ‘사고’가 발생했다. “거기는 안개가 자욱하고 흐리다는데...”라고 말을 이어가던 순간, ‘에딘버러’가 생각나지 않았던 것!
영상을 보면, 1~2초 동안 머뭇거리던 그는 방송 진행용 이어폰으로 흘러나온 동료의 도움으로 ‘에딘버러’를 기억해냈다.
그러나 그는 결국 웃음을 참지 못하고 얼굴을 감싸 쥐었다. ‘Oh no!’라는 감탄사와 함께! 일단 웃음을 멈추고 날씨를 계속 전하던 그는 또다시 웃음보를 빵빵 터뜨렸다. 주말 날씨가 맑다는 뉴스가 그를 기쁘게 한 것 같지는 않은데 말이다.
그런데, 놀랍게도 그게 끝이 아니었다! 이어 제법 침착하게 위기를 모면하는가 싶던 그는 위성사진이 등장하자 또 웃음을 터뜨렸다. 지도 위의 ‘스코틀랜드’를 보면서 에딘버러를 떠올렸던 게 분명하다!

Given the forthcoming referendum, you’d imagine that most people would be able to remember what the capital of Scotland is called.
Except, it seems, for BBC weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker, whose knowledge of geography north of the border completely failed him live on air earlier today.
It all started well enough, as reporter Jane Hill handed over to him from her broadcast in Edinburgh – and he pointed out that it looked ‘pretty misty and murky’ where she was.
All of which would have been fine – if he could have actually remembered the name of the city…
