(CNN)Facebook has come under fire for a "barbaric use of technology" that allowed the sale of a child bride to be held on its site.

페이스북 경매로 2억5000만원에 팔린 16세 신부 페이스북 뒤늦게 인신매매성 게시물 삭제 소녀는 이미 300㎞ 떨어진 타지로 팔려가    동아프리카 남수단에서 16세 소녀가 페이스북 경매를 통해 2억5000만원 상당의 신부값(bride-price)에 팔려갔다. 페이스북은 뒤늦게 인신매매성 게시물을 삭제했지만, 이미 소녀는 300㎞ 떨어진 타지로 팔려가 결혼식까지 마친 뒤였다. 20일(현지 시각) CNN에 따르면 지난달 25일 남수단 중부 이스턴레이크주에 사는 16세 소녀 느얄롱과의 결혼을 경매에 부친다는 게시글이 페이스북에 올라왔다. 이 경매에는 남성 5명이 입찰 경쟁을 벌였다. 느얄롱은 소 500마리와 도요타 자동차 3대, 1만달러(약 1128만원)을 신부값으로 제시한 사업가 콕 알랏과 결혼하게 됐다. 남수단에서 소 1마리의 가치가 125달러(약 14만원) 정도라는 것을 고려하면 느얄롱의 아버지는 딸을 경매로 팔아 2억5000만원쯤을 챙긴 것으로 추산된다.  이 사실이 알려지자 인권단체들은 ‘어린이 신부 경매’를 방조했다며 페이스북을 강하게 비판했다. 국제 구호기구 ‘플랜 인터내셔널’은 "야만적인 기술 사용이 과거의 노예 경매를 연상시킨다"며 "오늘날 이렇게 어린 소녀가 세계에서 가장 큰 소셜미디어에서 팔렸다는 것은 믿을 수 없는 일"이라고 했다. 국제여성인권단체 ‘이퀄리티 나우’는 "어린이 신부 경매가 페이스북에서 끊이지 않고 있다"며 "페이스북은 여성 권리를 지키기 위해 더 많은 인력을 투입해야 한다"고 말했다. An auction was held on the social media platform for a 16-year-old girl in South Sudan which sought payment for her hand in marriage.

Facebook said the post was taken down as soon as the company learned of it, but that wasn't until after the girl was married.

According to children's rights organization Plan International, the girl was bid on by five men, some of whom were reportedly high-ranking South Sudanese government officials.

Activists are concerned that this auction -- for which the father reportedly received 500 cows, three cars and $10,000 in exchange for his daughter -- could inspire other families to use social media sites to receive larger payments.

Plan International's country director in South Sudan, George Otim, said: "That a girl could be sold for marriage on the world's biggest social networking site in this day and age is beyond belief."

He added: "This barbaric use of technology is reminiscent of latter-day slave markets."

Removed from Facebook 15 days after being posted

Facebook told CNN that its platform was used for the bidding, which started on October 25, and that it removed the post on November 9 -- 15 days later.

"Any form of human trafficking -- whether posts, pages, ads or groups is not allowed on Facebook. We removed the post and permanently disabled the account belonging to the person who posted this to Facebook," a company spokesperson said in a statement.

"We're always improving the methods we use to identify content that breaks our policies, including doubling our safety and security team to more than 30,000 and investing in technology," the spokesperson added.
