Kuwait awards $210m contracts for Sabah Al-Ahmad City

Kuwait's Public Authority for Housing Welfare has awarded two construction and infrastructure contracts worth $210m (KWD60m) for work on the Sabah Al-Ahmad City mega development. 

Sabah Al-Ahmad City will reportedly be built in 10 phases over 25 years. 

2.1억불 규모 쿠웨이트 사바 알 아흐마드 해상 신도시 건설 프로젝트 발주 25년간 10단계 걸쳐 건설 1단계 건설공사 범위에는 완공 시 25만 명 수용 대규모 프로젝트인 사바 알-아흐마드 시의 기반시설, 주요 도로 및 2차 발전소의 건설, 시행 및 유지 등이 포함된다.  쿠웨이트 시에서 남쪽으로 65km 떨어진 키란 시에서, 복합메가프로젝트는 총 40km2의 부지에 건설되며, 사막의 늪을 굴착하여 인공섬으로 여러 단계로 건설될 것이다. 2단계는 주택 40가구와 아파트 720가구의 건설이 포함되어 있다 쿠웨이트의 주택복지공단은 2018년 11월 11일 정부 기관의 공식 트위터 계정에 대한 트위트에서 이 두 계약을 승인했다고 밝혔다. 한편 쿠웨이트 정부는 이달 초 폭우로 인한 갑작스런 홍수로 인한 사바 알-아흐마드 시의 피해 상황을 점검하기 위한 태스크포스를 구성한 것으로 알려졌다.. 황기철 콘페이퍼 에디터 큐레이터 Ki Cheol Hwang, conpaper editor, curator

The scope of the first contract includes the construction, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure, main roads, and secondary power stations in Sabah Al-Ahmad City, a large-scale project that will be home to 250,000 people upon completion. 

Located 65km south of Kuwait City in Khiran, the mixed-used megaproject occupies a total land area of 40km² and will be built in numerous phases, with artificial islands constructed by excavating swathes of desert territory.

The second contract covers the construction of 40 residential buildings with 720 apartments.

Kuwait's Public Authority for Housing Welfare revealed it had awarded the two contracts in a tweet on the government body's official Twitter account on 11 November 2018.

Meanwhile, Kuwait's government has reportedly formed a task force to review damage to Sabah Al-Ahmad City caused by flash floods earlier this month following heavy rainfall.

National newspaper Kuwait Times claim Kuwait's Minister for Housing Affairs and Minister of State Services, Jenan Bushehri, has created teams of technical workers to inspect the construction site to assess damaged building works.

Companies already mobilised on site may have to foot the bill for any repairs that are required, the article added, citing comments from Bushehri.
