Construction on the billion-dollar King Hamad Causeway that will connect Bahrain to Saudi Arabia will start in 2021, according to media reports.

사우디, 40억 불 규모 바레인 연결 킹하마드 해상교량 건설 추진 2021년 착수 킹파드 교량 옆에 나란히 건설 사우디의 바레인 대사인 압둘라 알 셰이크는 사우디에 본부를 둔 방송국인 알 아라비야에 교량 건설 입찰이 향후 6개월 내에 있을 것이라고 말했다. 알 셰이크는 건설 주간지의 자매지인 아라비안 비즈니스 보도에서 아라비아만에서 2021년 중반부터 아랍만을 가로지르는 교량공사가 시작되 공기는 3년이 될 것이라고 밝혔다. 30~40억불이 소요될 이 프로젝트에는 철도도 포함된다. 교통 체증 문제에 직면하고 있는 사우디의 킹파드 고속도로에 나란히 건설될 이 새로운 노선은 사우디와 바레인 사이의 또 다른 교통 수단을 제공할 것이며 양국간의 쌍무 무역협력을 지원할 것으로 기대하고 있다 . 황기철 콘페이퍼 에디터 큐레이터 Ki Cheol Hwang, conpaper editor, curator

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Bahrain, Abdullah Al-Sheikh, told Saudi-based broadcaster Al Arabiya that a tender for construction of the bridge would be issued within the next six months.

Work on the bridge that will cross the Arabian Gulf will start in mid-2021 and take approximately three years to complete, Al-Sheikh revealed in an update reported by Construction Week's sister title, Arabian Business.

The causeway, estimated to cost between $3bn (BHD1.1bn; SAR11.2bn) and $4bn (BHD1.5bn; SAR15bn), will include a railway line for the GCC’s network, cargo trains, and vehicle lanes.

Running parallel to the King Fahd causeway, which continues to face traffic congestion challenges, the new route will provide another transport link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Both countries expect the network to support bilateral trade in goods and services.
