UN: US accuses Russia of N. Korean 'sanctions violations'

The United States has "evidence of multiple Russian sanctions violations" of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said at the UN headquarters in New York City on Monday.

According to the US ambassador to the UN, Russia tainted a report on the implementation of North Korean sanctions.

"The report contained evidence of multiple Russian sanction violations," Haley said adding that "Russia threatened to prevent release of the report unless its demand to hide the evidence of its violations was met."

She added that Russia has the "tendency to kill the messengers of inconvenient truths."

"Russian corruption is like a virus," Haley said by accusing Russia of preventing the United Nations from achieving the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

She concluded by urging the UN Security Council members to preserve the North Korean sanctions and said that "it's never the right time to allow cheating to go unpunished."
