(CNN)The Horizon Air plane stolen from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is a Q400 Bombardier turboprop.

It holds a crew of two pilots and two flight attendants, and has 76 seats in the coach. The craft is designed for shorter distance flights.

미국 서북부 워싱턴주 시애틀-타코마 국제공항에서 한 항공사 직원이 소형 비행기를 탈취해 비행하다 추락했습니다.

사고 비행기는 '호라이즌에어 Q400' 76인승 쌍발 비행기로, 사고 당시 승객은 없었습니다.

비행기를 탈취한 남성은 29세의 호라이즌 에어 소속 지상 근무자로, 공항 관제탑과 1시간 넘게 교신한 것으로 밝혀졌습니다.

녹음된 교신 내용에서 관제탑 직원들은 이 남성을 "리치(Rich)"라고 부르며 착륙을 설득하고 있습니다. 그러나 이 정비사는 자신이 실의에 빠진 사람이며, 착륙할 생각이 없다고 밝힌 것으로 알려졌습니다.

호라이즌 측은 이 남성의 이름을 공개하지 않았습니다.

사고 비행기는 이륙 직후 2대의 F-15 전투기의 추적을 받았으며, 남쪽으로 약 50km 떨어진 케트론 섬에 추락했습니다.

현지 당국은 이번 사건은 테러 사건이 아니며, 이 남성은 자살 성향을 보였다고 말했습니다.

미 연방수사국(FBI)도 트위터에 테러 사건이 아닌 것 같다고 확인했습니다.

이번 사건으로 시애틀-타코마 국제공항은 한때 폐쇄됐으며, 모든 비행기의 이착륙이 금지됐습니다.
