Oman and Korea ink agreement to set up smart cities

Oman and South Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish futuristic smart cities in the sultanate.

The bilateral agreement will see research started to explore how smart city concepts for Oman's Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZD) can be financed.

오만의 산업 자원부 장관인 알리 빈 마나디 박사와 손병석 국토 교통부 국토 교통부 차관의 양국 간 합의에서

두쿰 오만특별경제구역에 건설되는 스마트 시티에 어떻게 자금 조달을 할 수  있는지 조사를 시작할 계획이다.

두 나라는 이미 전부터 스마트 시티 계획에 협력하고 있으며, 이번 양해각서 체결은 두 나라가 미래 도시 개념을 확립하기 위해 더 가까이 협력하는 것을 봐야 할 것이다

보다 효율적으로 그리고 시민들에 대한 서비스를 개선하기 위한 데이터 및 분석 등이 수반될 것이다.

한국은 이미 스마트 시티 연구를 위한 초안을 준비해왔고 두바이의 특별 경제 구역청과 협력해오고  있다.

Both countries are already working together on smart city planning for SEZD, and Wednesday's agreement will see the two nations work closer together to establish futuristic city concepts that use electronic data and analytics to improve civic services by making them more efficient.

South Korea is already working with the Special Economic Zone Authority in Duqm (SEZAD) by preparing draft papers for smart city research. 

Dr Ali bin Mas'oud al-Sunaidy, Oman's Minister of Commerce and Industry signed the MoU with Son Byeong-Suk, vice minister for land and infrastructure at South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.

The agreement was inked on the sidelines of the Omani-Korean Business Forum, a one-day event held in Oman earlier this week.
