미국 달러화 대비 원화 환율이 1080원대로 상승했다. 미국이 이란 핵 협정 탈퇴를 공식 선언하면서 위험자산에 대한 투자 심리가 위축된 영향으로 분석된다. 미국의 이란 핵 협정 탈퇴가 북미 정상회담에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 우려도 나온다.

9일 서울 외환시장에서 원·달러 환율은 2.5원 오른 1079.0원에 거래를 시작했다. 개장 직후 상승 폭이 커지면서 오전 10시 기준 원·달러 환율은 1082.0원까지 올랐다. 원·달러 환율이 장중 1080원을 넘은 것은 지난달 26일(장중 최고치 1082.0원) 이후 7거래일 만에 처음이다.

The US dollar jumped in European trade on Tuesday against its developed and emerging market peers, sending the euro to a new 2018 low, after Jay Powell warned that markets should not be “surprised” by further Federal Reserve policy tightening.
Just after 9:30am in London, the US dollar index, a measure of the buck against six developed market currencies, rose 0.39 per cent to its strongest level since late December.
The common currency slipped 0.28 per cent to $1.1888, while sterling was off 0.38 per cent at $1.3508. Meanwhile, the dollar gained 0.75 per cent on the Canadian dollar, with a buck purchasing C$1.2980.
In emerging markets, the Mexican peso slid 0.66 per cent to Mxn19.591, while the Turkish lira slipped about 0.5 per cent to a new record low of Try4.294.
Mr Powell, the Fed chief, said in a speech in Zurich that “markets should not be surprised by our actions if the economy evolves in line with expectations.” He noted that emerging markets should be able to withstand tightening at the Fed and across the developed world.
However, Tuesday’s drop in EMs highlights concern among investors that higher US rates will dent demand for EM debt and currencies.
A round of data on US inflation due this week is expected to garner intense attention from currencies traders, according to analysts.
