UAE's $20bn Barakah NEP reports construction progress

  한전을 비롯해 삼성물산 현대건설 두산중공업과 협력사 등 한국  건설사들이  시공 중인 UAE 바라카 원전 공정이 순조롭게 진행 중이다.

현재 3,4호기는 전력망에 연결됐으며 2호기의 주변압기 등에 동력을 공급했다.

3,4호기의 UAE 전력망 연결은 앞으로 있을 시험가동과 양호기에 건설되는  추가적 보조건물의 완공을 위해 반드시 필요한 공정이다. 

4호기의 현재 공정은 60%, 3호기는 80%가 완료됐으며 90% 이상 완료된 2호기는 UAE 원자력안전규제청 가동승인과 재점검에 앞서  현재 커미셔닝과 테스팅 진행 중이다.

바라카 원전 4개호기가 모두 가동되면 매년 21백만톤의 카본 유출을 줄일 수 있다.

마일스톤의 달성에 대해 모하메드 알 하마디 ENEC CEO는 "이번 마일스톤은  주시공사인 한전과 파트너사들과의 광범위한 공동 협력하에 무사히 달성됐다"며 이어서  "1호기에서 동일한 작업을 수행 시 얻은 경험을 10분 활용하여 공동작업하고 장점을 최대한  활용하므로서, 작업팀은 계속해서 중요한 진척을 이루는 동시에 안전, 보안 및 품질의 최고 국제 표준을 구현하고 있다."고 언급했다.

Meanwhile, Unit 2's main power transformer (MTR), excitation transformer, and unit auxiliary power transformers (UAT) have also been energised. 

The connection of Units 3 and 4 to the UAE grid is a prerequisite for future testing and allows for the completion of additional auxiliary buildings at both units.

Unit 4 of Barakah NEP is now more than 60% complete, while Unit 3 is almost 80% completed.

Unit 2 is more than 90% finished, and Unit 1 is currently undergoing commissioning and testing, prior to regulatory review and receipt of the operating licence from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR).

When the four reactors are completed, Barakah NEP will save up to 21 million tons of carbon emissions each year, Arabian Business reported.

Commenting on the milestones, Mohamed Al Hammadi, chief executive officer of ENEC, said: "These milestones are a result of our extensive collaboration with our prime contractor and joint venture partner, the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

"Working together and benefitting from the experience gained when conducting the same work on Unit 1, the teams continue to make significant progress while continuing to implement the highest international standards of safety, security and quality."
