Dubai Skyscraper “Sky Walk” Attraction Set to Launch

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 01 September 2017

Emaar Properties has announced the launch of Sky Walk, a 200-meter-high cantilevered observation corridor affixed to one of the two towers in Downtown Dubai’s Address Sky View development. The project will allow visitors to don safety harnesses and walk outside of the building.

Joining the league of Emaar's other attractions such as At the Top and Burj Khalifa SKY, Sky Walk is built from more than 350 tons of structural steel, and has been lifted to position using customized strand-jacking technology. A global team of more than 300 engineering, construction, and design experts worked on the project over a one-year period.

Sky Walk’s 30-meter long cantilever is a half-oval structure offering 45 meters of walking distance. To ensure the safety and comfort of visitors, tuned damping parts are being fixed underneath the Sky Walk.

Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties, said: “Lifting the Sky Walk in place is a true engineering feat accomplished seamlessly by a team of experts from across the world. Sky Walk is another demonstration of the global collaboration that our nation promotes."

The international team had to address several design challenges while working on the project, including the use of extensive steel loads and the ambient temperature difference. In response, they introduced several innovative approaches, such as erecting the main body using high-capacity cranes not commonly used in the region.

The attraction should be open to the public by the end of 2017.
