Egypt, China ink $10bn deal for 15 projects

Egypt has inked an initial agreement for 15 projects worth $10bn with China, the Arab country’s trade minister recently announced. Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, after signing initial framework agreements with his Chinese trade ministry counterparts, said financing agreements will be signed between late June and September this year. The projects will primarily focus on the electricity and transport sectors, and also allow Chinese direct investment in other projects. While no companies were specifically named, Nour said Export-Import Bank of China will finance six transport projects, including the construction of a new railroad and development of numerous existing ones, Reuters reported. Representatives from Egypt’s trade ministry as well as representatives of Export-Import Bank of China, China Development Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and China-Africa Development Fund had met with representatives from the Egyptian trade and investment ministries. The minister said both parties had the right to ask for changes or adjustments to this deal. constructiononline
