1949년에 촬영했던 마릴린 몬로의 누드사진 '레드 벨벳 시리즈' 등이 소개되고 

있다.

 

마릴린 몬로가 무명시절 단돈 50달러 받고 촬영한 이 사진들은 경매시장에서

100만달러를 홋가한다.

 

차 사고가 난 마릴린 몬로에게 5달러와 명함을 준게 인연이 되어 그녀의 전속

사진사는 물론 할리우드 유명인사들의 사진사가 됐다.

Tom Kelley, nicknamed the 'Godfather of pin ups', is being celebrated in a racy new photography book featuring previously unseen images of nudes from the 1940s to the 1970s.


The celebrity photographer, who died in 1984, is credited with launching Marilyn Monroe's career, when, in 1948, he took the then out-of-work actress' picture: a nude posed with arm outstretched against a scarlet background.


Five years later, Kelley's photo became Playboy’s first ever centrefold in its inaugural issue, and it has since become one of the most viewed nudes in history.

During his career, Kelley was responsible for hundreds of glamour shoots, from unknown models and strippers, to scantly clad playmates and the stellar starlets of the day, including Evelyn West, Norma Brooks and Mamie Van Doren.

 

More than 250 images comprise the new book, titled Tom Kelley's Studio - and over 80 per cent of the images are unseen and unpublished.

Also included are previously unseen out-takes from his legendary Marilyn Monroe shoot.
Monroe was still a struggling model and actress when she a minor car accident on Sunset Boulevard, which Kelley saw and offered her $5 for cab fare. He also gave her a business card from the Hollywood photography studio where he did advertising work.

Monroe was photographed by Kelley for a several modeling jobs before he asked her if she wanted to pose nude for a 'cheesecake calendar' - popular in auto shops and garages.

It was through his work involving advertising in the burgeoning movie business that Kelley developed a distinctive line in nude photography.
