Der Ring des Nibelungen(니벨룽겐의 반지)
와그너의 악극 중 최대의 역작으로 꼽힌다.
니벨룽겐의 반지는 4개의 대서사시 오페라로 구성되어있으며
고대 노르웨이와 아이슬란드의 전설집인 사가(saga)
및 중세 독일의 영웅 서사시 니벨룽의 노래에 기초하여 만들어졌다.
대개 ‘반지 사이클’ 또는 ‘바그너의 반지’, 또는 간단히 ‘반지’라고 부른다.
다산 작곡가 답지않게 작품 공연때마다 음악과 리브레토(가극의가사)를 직접 썼으며 1848년부터 1874년까지 26년이 걸렸다. 이 작품은 4일에 걸쳐 장장 15시간동안 공연되는 대작이다.
