팔 근육을 키우기 위해 '기름'을 가득 주입한 러시아 남성이 화제다. 그는 결국 부작용으로 죽은 팔 근육과 기름을 제거하는 수술을 받아야 했다.
7일 영국 더선에 따르면, 러시아 청년 키릴 테레신(24)는 지난 2017년부터 자신의 이두근과 삼두근에 여러 차례 '신톨(Synthol Oil)'을 주입했다. 각 팔에 3L씩 총 6L를 주사한 것으로 알려졌다.

A RUSSIAN bodybuilder dubbed 'Popeye' has undergone life-saving surgery to remove rotting flesh from his arms after he injected them with oil.
Kirill Tereshin, 24, faced his second round of surgery to clear his clogged-up triceps, removing the dead muscle and draining his arms of excess fluid caused by the substance.
The former soldier became an internet sensation after sharing pictures of his cartoonish arms
Doctors warned Tereshin he risked losing the use of his arms after he injected himself with Synthol oil to create cartoonish, bulging muscles, and shared the footage with his 350,000 Instagram followers.
The former soldier admitted his health woes were "due to my own stupidity" after he started bulking up his arms at age 20.

근육이 빵빵한 모습과 수술 후의 모습

그의 팔 굵기는 24인치에 달할 정도로 굵어졌고, 사람들은 인스타그램에서 그의 근육 사진을 보며 '뽀빠이' 등의 별명을 붙였다. 키릴은 하루 25mL씩 신톨을 투여하다가, 효과가 점차 적어지자 리터 단위로 투여량을 늘렸다고 한다.
하지만 그는 2018년부터 고열 증세가 자주 나타났고, 팔을 움직이기가 어려워졌다. 의사들은 그에게 팔을 방치했다간 기능을 완전히 잃어버릴 뿐 아니라 죽을 위험이 있다고 경고했다. 실제 신톨은 근육 조직을 단단하게 하지만, 결국 이를 손상시키고 약하게 한다.

결국 키릴 테레신은 수술을 받기로 결정했으며, 팔에 신톨을 주입한 자기 자신이 바보같았다고 고백했다.
수술을 집도한 세체노프 의대의 드미트리 멜니코프 교수는 "신톨이 근육을 흠뻑 적셨고 혈류를 차단했다"고 말했다.
신톨 주사는 근육 조직을 확장하고 거의 즉각적인 결과를 보이기 때문에 보디빌더들 사이에서 인기가 있다고 전해진다. 하지만 돌이킬 수 없는 근육손상을 불러일으킬 뿐 아니라, 최악의 경우 생명을 위협한다.
