Chinese CDC study finds Covid-19 virus to be more contagious than SARS or MERS

    Hong Kong (CNN) - A comprehensive study of more than 72,000 confirmed and suspected cases of the novel coronavirus by Chinese scientists has revealed new information about the deadly infection which has brought much of the country to a halt.

홍콩 (CNN) - 중국 과학자들에 의해 확인된 7만 2천 건 이상의 바이러스 확진 사례와 의심스러운 사례에 대한 종합적인 연구 결과, 중국의 많은 부분을 마비시킨 치명적인 감염에 대한 새로운 정보가 밝혀졌다.

중국 질병통제예방센터의 전문가 집단이 24일 중국 후천학술지에 발표한 이번 연구는 지금까지 가장 크고 포괄적인 코로나바이러스 사례 조사다.

소설 코로나바이러스는 사스와 메르스를 일으키는 관련 바이러스보다 더 전염성이 강한 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따른 질병인 코비드-19는 사례별로 치명적이지는 않지만, 그 확산이 이미 관련 코로나바이러스보다 더 많은 사망자를 발생시켰다..

이 새로운 연구는 72,314명의 환자로부터 데이터를 조사했는데, 그 중 44,672명이 바이러스 확진 환자(61.8%), 그리고 임상적으로 진단된 환자 10,567명(14.6%), 의심환자 16,186명(22.4%)을 대상으로 조사를 했다. 추가로 조사된 889건은 아무런 증상도 나타나지 않았다.

"임상 진단된 환자"는 코비드-19의 모든 증상을 보여주지만 검사를 받지 못했거나 거짓으로 음성 검사를 받은 것으로 보이는 환자들이다.

 

중국 CDC는 확인된 44,672건의 환자 중 1,023명이 사망했다고 발표했는데, 이는 다른 연구와 예측과 일치하는 2.3%의 조잡한 사망률이다. 이에 비해 사스는 2003년 발병 당시 사망률이 9.6%인 반면 메르스 사망률은 35%인 것으로 나타났다. 미국 질병통제센터의 최근 추정에 따르면 계절성 독감은 전염성이 강하고 수천만 명의 사람들에게 영향을 미치는 것으로 사망률이 약 0.1%에 이른다고 한다.

Carried out by a group of experts at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and published in the Chinese Journal of Epidemiology on Monday, the study is the largest and most comprehensive examination of coronavirus cases so far.

It found that the novel coronavirus is more contagious than the related viruses which cause SARS and MERS. While the resulting disease, Covid-19, is not as fatal on a case-by-case basis, its greater spread has already led to more deaths than its related coronaviruses.
