VIDEO: Volvos will communicate with each other and use a GPS cloud to share information about dangerous road conditions including ice

It will be coming to Volvo vehicles across Europe and the UK later this week

First trialled in Sweden and Norway in 2016 before now being rolled out further

Car detects a hazard and flags it with GPS and this is sent to other Volvo cars

Volvo car owners will soon receive information on upcoming road hazards from other vehicles via their GPS.

Information will be shared through Volvo's cloud-based system which is used by all new vehicles made by the Swedish firm.

This will then be used to inform drivers if they are heading towards a potentially dangerous stretch of road and allow them to adjust their driving accordingly.

Volvo car owners will soon receive information on upcoming road hazards from other vehicles and see it on their GPS. The sharing of informing will inform drivers if they are heading towards a potentially dangerous spot

If a car detects a hazard - such as a pot-hole or a slippery road - it will flag it to other road users on their own GPS system.

The system will be coming to Volvo vehicles across Europe and the UK later this week after successful trials in Sweden and Norway dating back to 2016.

Volvo is pioneering a range of safety-orientated technology designed to decrease accident frequency.

Start-up Caareys has built two systems that utilise radar, with one performing analysis of heart rate, breath rate and driver health condition while its other project counts the number of passengers and positioning of them

BMW unveiled gaze recognition technology at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year that will let drivers control the inside of the car using only their eyes

The Swedish car manufacturer has already implemented a plan to limit the top speeds of some of their cars to just 112mph (180kph) as well as installing cameras into its cars to detect if the driver is drunk.

If it detects the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs it can then take control of the vehicle, reduce its speed and safely bring it to a stop on the side of the road.

Volvo's latest initiative would use the GPS systems of the cars and in-built sensors to detect any road issues and records its location.
