South Korean septet BTS will present at the 2019 Grammy Awards, a rep for Big Hit Entertainment confirms to Billboard.
Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook will present an award at the 61st Grammys on Feb. 10 -- their first time doing so at a Stateside event -- as Variety first reported Monday (Feb. 4).

BTS, 한국 가수 최초 ‘그래미 어워즈’ 시상자 참석 ‘베스트 레코딩 패키지’ 수상 기대 미국 3대 음악 시상식 모두 초대 받아 아이돌그룹 방탄소년단이 미국에서 가장 권위 있는 음악 시상식으로 꼽히는 ‘그래미 어워즈(그래미)’에 시상자로 참석한다.한국 가수가 그래미의 초청을 받아 시상자로 무대에 오르기는 방탄소년단이 처음이다. 올해로 61회를 맞은 그래미는 10일(현지 시간) 미국 로스앤젤레스 스테이플스 센터에서 시상식을 연다. 방탄소년단 소속사인 빅히트엔터테인먼트는 “방탄소년단이 그래미에 초대받아 시상식에 시상자로 참석한다”고 5일 알렸다. 방탄소년단의 그래미 참석 소식은 미국 연예 매체인 버라이어티의 보도로 처음 알려졌다. 방탄소년단은 그래미 외출로 미국 3대 음악 시상식에 모두 초청을 받은 첫 한국 가수가 됐다. 앞서 방탄소년단은 지난해 5월 빌보드 뮤직 어워즈에서 ‘톱 소셜 아티스트’상을 받았고, 같은 해 10월엔 아메리칸 뮤직어워즈에서 ‘페이보릿 소셜 아티스트’ 수상자로 선정된 바 있다. 방탄소년단 앨범 ‘러브 유어셀프 전 티어’가 제61회 그래미 어워즈에서 베스트 레코딩 패키지 부문 후보에 올랐다. 그래미 홈페이지 캡처 방탄소년단은 이번 그래미 후보에 직접 이름을 올리진 못했다. 하지만 이들이 지난해 5월 낸 앨범 ‘러브 유어셀프 전 티어’는 ‘베스트 레코딩 패키지’ 부문 후보에 올랐다. 수상작으로 지목되면 트로피는 국내 회사 허스키폭스가 받는다. 베스트 레코딩 패키지 부문은 앨범 재킷 디자인의 수작을 가려 앨범 표지 제작자(사)에 주는 상이다. 그래미에서 한국어 노래가 실린 대중음악 앨범 제작에 참여한 스태프가 후보에 오르기는 처음이다.' 방탄소년단의 미국에서의 활약이 없었다면 이들의 앨범 디자인이 그래미에서 거론되기는 어려웠을 것이란 게 전문가들의 분석이다. 미국 빌보드는 방탄소년단 앨범의 베스트 레코딩 패키지 부문 후보 지명을 두고 “앨범 콘셉트에 대한 방탄소년단의 헌신을 기리고 새로운 이정표를 만드는 것”이라고 의미를 둔 바 있다. 허스키폭스 관계자는 그래미의 초청을 받아 설 연휴를 마치고 8일 현지로 출국한다. 방탄소년단이 시상자로 참석할 그래미는 케이블 채널 Mnet으로 11일 오전 9시 50분부터 국내에 생중계된다. 양승준 기자 comeon@hankookilbo.com 한국일보 |

Billboard has reached out to confirm what award the group will present. This will mark BTS' first time in attendance at the Grammys.
Their Billboard 200-topping album Love Yourself: Tear, released in May, is nominated at the Grammys in the best recording package category. The artwork was directed by HuskyFox’s Doohee Lee.
In the past, BTS’ Suga (Min Yoongi) has expressed interest in attending the Grammys. During the group's appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in the fall, when the host asked what goals are left for the guys to accomplish, Suga offered, "Go to the Grammys."
Tear is up against four other albums: Mitski’s Be the Cowboy, with art directed by Mary Banas; St. Vincent’s Masseduction directed by Willo Perron; The Chairman’s The Offering, directed by Qing-Yang Xiao; and Foxhole’s Well Kept Thing, directed by Adam Moore.

The 61st Grammys will be hosted by Alicia Keys and broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles and air on CBS on Sunday night. The performance lineup includes Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Janelle Monáe, Miley Cyrus, H.E.R., Brandi Carlile, Shawn Mendes, Kacey Musgraves, Dan + Shay and Post Malone with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Almost immediately following the initial news report, the hashtag “BTXxGRAMMYS” began to trend as Twitter reacted to the announcement.
