World's largest self-driving warship aces its first sea trials: US Navy's 132ft-long 'Sea Hunter' drone will scour oceans for enemy subs

• $20 million unarmed vessel can reach speeds of 27 knots per hour
• Tests will focus on its ability to react on its own to avoid collisions
• During testing, the ship had human operators as a safety net
• Future models could be fitted with weapons if need be, officials say

세계 최대 미 무인 전투함이 샌디에고에서 곧 첫 시범 운항에 나선다.

전장 39.6m로 비무장 상태로 시속 27노트(50km/h) 속도를 낼 수 있다.

'씨 헌터'로 불리우며 로봇전투함으로서 적 잠수함 잡는 킬러다.

건조에 2천만불의 제작비가 소요됐다.

이번 시범 운항에서는 스스로 충돌을 피하는 능력을 평가받으며 

안전을 위해서 사람이 동승하게 된다.

이번 시험 이후에는 무기 탑재가 가능할 것으로 보고 있다.

Dubbed the 'Sea Hunter', the 132ft ship is designed to travel thousands of miles out at sea without a single crew member on board.

The self driving warship has now completed its first trials - and passed with flying colours. 

Experts say the vessel has the potential to revolutionise not only the military's maritime service but also commercial shipping.
