슈퍼맥시멈시큐리티는 슈퍼맥시멈이라고도 줄여 말한다.

마치 피자나 햄버거 이름 같지만 

이 곳은 탈출이 불가능한 세계에서 제일 삼엄한 교도소다.

소위 '미션 임파시블'이다.

미국은 '대량 투옥'이라는 교도소 원칙을 적용하고 있는데

이는 범죄예방학적으로 볼 때 가장 많이 또 오래동안 투옥시키는 것이 좋다고 생각하기 

때문이다.

현재 미국에는 각주에 58개의 슈퍼맥스가 있는데 그중에서 가장 악랄하고 철통같은 곳이 

콜로라도에 있는 '플로렌스 슈퍼맥스'다.

세계 제일의 감옥 국가로 평가 받고 있는 미국은 개인의 인권을 침해하는 슈퍼맥스의 폐지논란의 중심에 서있다.
