그는 3년 전 스위스에서 이 절벽을 본 후 점프에 대한 생각을 갖게 됐다고 '러시아 투데이'와의 인터뷰에서 밝혔다. 다음은 그의 인터뷰 내용이다
"최근 3년 동안 스위스에 살면서 레스토랑에서 접시 닦는 아르바이트를 했다. 내 적성에 맞는 일은 아니었지만, 매일 점프 연습을 하기 위해서였다. 접시를 닦던 레스토랑은 산 정상에 위치하고 있다. 나는 그 계곡에서 살았다. 그래서 매일 아래로 점프, 비행하며 집으로 돌아오곤 했다.

Italian base jumper Uli Emanuele has taken on what is thought to be one of the most technically challenging Base jumps ever executed. Emanuele flies through a rock crevice near Lauterbrunnen in the Swiss Alps while filming the whole event in a promotional video for the GoPro camera company. On his Facebook page, Emanuele said he had trained three years for the jump and hiked 45 hours to get to the launch spot
