The World's Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2014

#1 Maria Sharapova

Total earnings: $24.4 million
Prize money: $2.4 million
Endorsements: $22 million

Sharapova was injured and played only one match in the second half of 2013, which put a dent in her prize money and exhibition fees. Her earnings also took a hit when Nike sold Cole Haan in 2013, as Sharapova received hefty royalties on her best-selling line of Cole Haan shoes when it was under the Nike umbrella. But she remains the top female endorser in sports with deals with Nike, Avon, Samsung, Tag Heuer, Evian and Head.

#2 Li Na

Total earnings: $23.6 million
Prize money: $5.6 million
Endorsements: $18 million

Li is nipping at Sharapova's heels to be the top paid women in sports after winning the Australian Open in January for her second career Grand Slam title. The win triggered a massive bonus from sponsor Nike as well as her other endorsement partners. Li became a marketing darling in 2011 when she won the French Open to become the first Asian-born tennis player ever to win a Grand Slam singles event

#3 Serena Williams

Total earnings: $22 million
Prize money: $11 million
Endorsements: $11 million

Serena has dominated her sport since turning pro in 1995. Her $56 million in career prize money is almost double No 2. on the list, Maria Sharapova. Williams can't match Sharapova's endorsements, but she maintains deals with Nike, Wilson, Gatorade and OPI. She also owns small stakes in Sleep Sheets and the Miami Dolphins.

#4 Kim Yuna

Total earnings: $16.3 million
Prize money: $300,000
Endorsements: $16 million

Kim won silver at the Sochi Olympics in February, although many felt she deserved the gold. The Olympics marked the end of Queen Yuna's competitive skating career. She never finished off the podium in a competition during her career. Kim continues to be an endorsement star and is one of the biggest celebrities in Korea. She added a deal with SK Telecom this year and has more than a dozen corporate partners.

#5 Danica Patrick

Total earnings: $15 million
Salary/winnings: $7 million
Endorsements/licensing: $8 million

Patrick sits 28th in the Nascar standings with only two top 10 finishes after 21 starts in her second year racing full-time in Sprint Cup. She remains one of the sport's biggest draws and has more than 10 personal endorsement partners, including Coca-Cola, Tissot and Peak. She has appeared in a record 13 Super Bowl commercials for her car sponsor, GoDaddy
