Brazil: CPTM has awarded Alstom an €11m contract to modify signalling on São Paulo Line 9 for the Varginha extension.



China: China Railway Construction Corp has won a 18·4bn yuan contract to build a metro line in Shenzhen.


Shanghai Shentong Metro Group has awarded the Line 14 signalling contract to the Thales SEC Transport joint venture of Thales and Shanghai Electric.


Denmark: Strukton is to renew 30 km of track between Valby and Frederikssund.




France: Lyon – Torino base tunnel authority TELT has awarded a contract to the S2IP consortium of Setec, Systra, Italferr and Pini Swiss Engineers for project management of the access tunnels between Saint-Martin-La-Porte and La Praz, comprising two single-track bores of 22·1 km.


Greece: Evraz ZSMK has delivered its first batch of rails for an EU client, comprising 1 650 tonnes for the extension of Athens metro Line 3 to Piraeus.


Indonesia: Teltronic is to supply Tetra communications for the light rail network being developed in Palembang.


Netherlands: On behalf of ProRail, VolkerRail and Arcadis have undertaken work to adapt Rotterdam Centraal station to accommodate Eurostar’s Amsterdam – London service (p28). This includes realigning tracks and widening a platform to create secure areas for screened passengers.


Poland: PKP PLK has selected Trakcja PRKiI’s 99m złoty bid for a design and build contract to reopen Warszawa Główna station, currently used as a museum. The revived terminus is to be used for some long distance services during the closure for modernisation of two of the four tracks between Zachodnia and Wschodnia stations, and would then be used by terminating services which are prevented from using Centralna because of capacity constraints.


PKP PLK has awarded Thales a 102m złoty contract to install ETCS Level 2 on the 135 km Kraków – Rzeszów line.


Serso has won a 25m złoty contract for civil, electrification renewal and platform works on 24 km Munina – Żurawica line.


PPM-T has ordered a Plasser & Theurer Unimat 09-32/4S Dynamic tamper for delivery in 2020.


AŽD Praha submitted the 149m złoty lowest bid for resignalling the Poznań – Wronki route by December 2020.


Porr has won a 61m złoty contract to modernise PKP PLK’s Katowice Ligota – Tychy 15 km single track branch, and Ekocentrum and Wudimeks a 3m złoty contract for supervision.


PKP PLK has selected a consortium of Budimex and KZA PAiT Lublin for a 158m złoty contract to raise line speeds at Idzikowice on the CMK trunk line.




Russia: CRRC has agreed to work with PPP concessionaire VIS Construction to design and build the 170 km Bovanenkovo – Sabetta line on the Yamal peninsula. Opening is planned for late 2019.


Evraz has signed a five-year agreement to supply RZD with 3·2 million tonnes of rail worth 111·7bn roubles. The contract specifies volume and types for each year, allowing more precise planning.


Singapore:  LTA has awarded Meiden Singapore two contracts totalling S$500m to upgrade power supplies on the North-South and East-West metro lines, and a consortium of Siemens and Engie Services Singapore has won a S$73m contract to replace track circuits.


Thailand: MRTA has selected Pandrol’s VIPA DRS rail fastenings for the 19 km northern extension of Bangkok Skytrain’s elevated Green Line. VIPA DRS will be installed on cast in-situ concrete plinths, with the assembled baseplates hung from the rail and the concrete installed straight up to the bottom of the baseplate in one operation.


UK: Following the insolvency of Carillion, on January 30 Transport for London announced its intention to appoint Cleshar Contract Services to take over infrastructure maintenance on the East London Line from April 1.


Network Rail has appointed Balfour Beatty to operate and maintain its fleet of Stoneblowers, which inject ballast under the sleepers to fill voids and restore track geometry. The four-year contract is worth more than £40m.


USA: Wabtec Corp has signed a $62m contract to design, install, test and commission Positive Train Control for the 100 km Central Florida Rail Corridor used by SunRail commuter services around Orlando.


New York MTA has awarded the 3rd Track Contractors consortium of Dragados USA, John P Picone CCA Civil, Halmar International and Stantec a contract to add a 16 km third track on the Long Island Rail Road between Floral Park and Hicksville.
