This is the shortlist for the Weather Photographer of the Year competition

Prestigious contest is run by The Royal Meteorological Society and The Royal Photographic Society

Of 2,000 entries, 45 made the last cut

This photographer writes: 'I'd shot this tree in Scotland the previous day when it was dripping with snow. Deciding to return the following day I retraced my steps, which were still visible in the snow. The mist was thick but just starting to clear as I arrived. Not long afterwards I could see a faint fog bow appearing around the tree. I'd seen fog bows before but knew they were relatively rare requiring certain types of conditions to come together. After capturing several shots the bow gently faded in to the ether never to return'
