Dubai could become a global hub for 3D printed construction activities, an expert told ConstructionWeekOnline.
In an exclusive video interview, Fahmi Al-Shawwa, CEO of UAE-based Immensa Technology Labs, said the emirate's proactive strategies to promote 3D printing would also benefit its construction sector.
Al-Shawwa added: "Dubai is one of the forefront markets and adopters of 3D printing.
"Because we can create the technology, we're looking at at working with contracting companies to develop their own 3D printers for concrete, leading to more homegrown innovation in the sector."
Al-Shawwa said the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy will also support the emirate's drive to 3D print 25% of its buildings by 2030.
The initiative was unveiled by the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in April 2016.
Immensa, known for its additive manufacturing capabilities, recently unveiled the UAE's first 3D printing factory.
